I'm currently in the process of applying to university. People try to tell you it's an exciting new experience or whatever but pleeeeasse. It is so stressful. It really is. My SAT scores are too low. My essay needs endless editing. My extracurriculars have to be milked for all they are worth. etc. etc. And the parents. Yea well you don't want to hear about all that. I was just saying. I come to my blog to write something that no one is going to edit with a red pen. No one cares if I make spelling or grammar mistakes. It's just fee and expressive, and no one's reading it. YES. Ok onto point B.
Sitting in my second favorite coffee shop right now, at a window seat. I have an excellent view of the street beyond. Just a normal small town vista. It is bizarre, really, watching these these strangers walk by one by one. I know nothing of their lives. They could be the damn President of Madagascar for all I know. More likely that guy talking on the phone outside the cafe is on his second marriage, talking to his son in college about grades and money, desperately craving a smoke. Yea I"m gonna go with that.
Oh. Here comes a few more. Two boys, first one probably twenty two. Second, nineteen. Both overweight, just a little, as if they spend just a few too many hours sitting on the couch watching football. Brothers- you can see it the way they stride. The same jaunt, the same slightly dark look in their lazy eyes.
Update. The man that just was talking on his phone now shook hands with two older men sitting just outside the coffee shop on those ridiculously uncomfortable looking metal chairs. One of them looks just like Matthew from Anne of Green Gables (a favorite of mine). Same glasses. Same lined, wise face, and snow white hair brushed over his balding head. His companion is heavy set, with big, fat fingers that grasp his cup of dark black coffee. The two guys. I can't hear what they're saying but I'm going to guess they are talking about a) the present state of the economy b) wives or c) sports. It's funny how you really can't tell at all what the subject is. What I could tell is that both were interested. Body language showed a friendship. A good one. I like to see that- it's reassuring.
